Welcome to La Maison Couleur Volcan, a guesthouse offering comfortable rooms and home-cooked evening meals in La Plaine-des-Cafres, in the peaceful neighbourhood of La Petite Ferme.

Our location is an ideal base for exploring Piton de la Fournaise volcano, the Cité du Volcan museum, the Bois Court viewpoint, Grand Bassin, the Route des Laves and the Wild South.

We welcome couples, families and groups in four accommodation options sleeping from 2 to 6 guests. A homemade breakfast is included in all our rates and can be prepared to take away for early departures.

In the evening, our table d’hôtes offers a taste of home-style local cooking prepared with fresh ingredients. Each room has its own dining table, allowing guests to enjoy our hospitality while preserving their privacy.

Located in La Plaine-des-Cafres, Maison Couleur Volcan is an ideal starting point for exploring Réunion Island’s highlands and the Piton de la Fournaise volcano. Many hiking trails, scenic walks and natural attractions are accessible nearby, including the Volcano Road, the Cité du Volcan museum and the Bois Court viewpoint.

We will be happy to recommend routes suited to your interests and experience level. We also work with a local mountain guide who can help you discover the island’s landscapes, trails and natural heritage, subject to availability.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Check-out is before 11 a.m. Please contact us in advance if you expect to arrive late or have any special requirements.

Is breakfast included?

Yes, our homemade breakfast is included in all our rates. It is served from 7 to 9 a.m. For early departures, an individually prepared takeaway breakfast is available upon request the evening before.

How can I book the evening meal?

Our table d’hôtes evening meal is served at 7 p.m. and must be booked no later than the day before. Please inform us of any allergies, food intolerances or dietary requirements. Each accommodation has its own dining table, allowing guests to enjoy their meal in privacy.

Are the bathrooms private?

Bory & Dolomieu have their own private bathroom and toilet, reserved exclusively for guests staying in these two rooms. Piton & Sable, Magma and Végétale share the upstairs bathroom and toilets. The bathroom can be locked from the inside and is entirely private while in use. It includes two showers and two washbasins.

Where can we park?

Parking is free. You may park alongside the outside wall of the house or in a free car park located approximately 20 metres away. There are usually plenty of spaces available.

Do you welcome babies and young children?

Yes, babies are welcome in all our accommodation options. A baby cot and high chair are available upon request, as well as games for children.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets are not allowed. Smoking is not permitted inside the house, and guests are asked to keep noise to a minimum after 9 p.m.

Can I book on the day of arrival?

Yes, subject to availability, same-day bookings are accepted until 2 p.m.

How do I pay for a direct booking?

Payment is made by bank transfer. Your booking is personally confirmed by La Maison Couleur Volcan once payment has been received.

What is your cancellation policy?

For cancellations made more than 7 days before arrival, a full refund will be issued. For cancellations made between 7 days and 48 hours before arrival, 50% of the amount paid will be refunded. No refund will be issued for cancellations made less than 48 hours before arrival, no-shows or early departures. Changes of dates may be accepted subject to availability.

Home-cooked food served at your own table

Every evening, we offer a home-cooked meal prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The menu includes a main course and a dessert. Depending on the day, dishes may include rougail saucisse, a traditional Réunion-style sausage dish, chicken or fish curry, or chicken lasagne flavoured with local spices and combava lime. Each room has its own dining table, allowing you to enjoy the warm atmosphere of our guesthouse while preserving your privacy. Prices: • Adults: €28 • Juniors: €20 • Children up to 12 years old: €15 Coffee or tea is included for adults. A suitable drink is included for children. Other drinks are available separately. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. and must be booked no later than the day before. Please inform us when booking of any allergies, food intolerances or dietary requirements.

A homemade breakfast, served in or prepared to take away

Breakfast is included in the price of your stay and is served every morning from 7 to 9 a.m. Depending on the day, we offer homemade pancakes, artisan jams, bread, butter, fresh fruit and fruit juice. You can choose from coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Scrambled eggs can also be prepared at no extra charge upon request. Planning an early start for a hike or a visit to the volcano? Ask us the evening before for a takeaway breakfast. It will be prepared individually, and self-service coffee will remain available before your departure.

Practical services

To make your stay easier, we offer several additional services upon request. Laundry service – €15 per load Washing, drying and folding for up to 7 kg of laundry per load. Takeaway picnic – €10 per person It includes a sandwich prepared with a filling agreed with you, an apple compote, a piece of fruit and a small sweet treat. Please order ideally 24 hours in advance or no later than the evening before. Luggage storage We can store your luggage before check-in or after check-out. Conditions and prices depend on the storage period and the number of bags. Please ask us about these services when booking or during your stay.
